Pet ALL the Dogs!

Dogs are great. They are one of the few beings that are always genuinely happy to see you. Whoever you are, they're happy to see you. Wherever you are, they're happy to see you.

Cats are evil. They play on the emotions of unsuspecting humans to cater to their every whim. And what do we get in return? At best, a purr. At worst, a lovely gash on your forearm. Cats. Are. Evil.

But regardless, I decided I should sign up to volunteer at the animal shelter near my home here. And I doubt I'll regret it. Because I'll be working with DOGS.

See, the great thing about San Diego is that it's big. Big enough that even animal shelters are big. So big, in fact, that volunteers actually get to pick between helping dogs, or cats, or office things, or laundry. It's pretty cool.

See, at the last shelter I worked at, it was small enough that as a volunteer you were asked to spend time with the dogs, cleaning kennels, doing laundry, doing dishes. And spending time with cats...  Twas not my favorite part.

I'm looking forward to this volunteering though. It'll finally give me something specific to do on my weekends besides get sunburned at the beach.

First World Problem #1

You know what's devilishly dangerous? Living with a small shopping plaza in your backyard.

What's worse is that there is a freaking Baskin Robbins in said plaza. I think my uncle and I have gone there after dinner about 5 times in the past week. It's just too damn easy! We eat dinner, digest for about 20 minutes, then look out the back window and see the ice cream shop. And then all of a sudden I'm sitting on the couch with a triple scoop peanut butter sundae half eaten.

Anybody that knows me know I love Reese's peanut butter anything. And ice cream is near the top of the list.
My uncle and I agreed that we have to limit ourselves....

Next week. Yeah, we'll start then...

I Just Had the Weirdest Dream

The only things I remember are that Tom Hiddleston was there and we were in a garage full of floor lamps, with garage doors on two adjacent walls. Tom asked me to decorate exactly 3 lamps for a party he was having in his tiny cottage overlooking a small lake.
PS: I swear I'm not on drugs

Sweet Glorious Delicious-ness, Batman!

Yesterday, I had a borderline religious experience. I felt the heavens smiling down on me, all was good in the world, and I could slowly feel my arteries clogging. Yes, my friends, I had my first California Burrito.

For those of you who know what a California Burrito is, and grew up eating them, you know not how lucky you are. For those of you that have no idea what I'm talking about, allow me to attempt to describe this absolute heaven-in-a-tortilla.

Delicious, tender, flavorful carne asada, fresh, juicy pico de gallo, sweet, sauteed onions, lots and lots of delicious cheese that just deliciously binds everything together And then the kicker:

French Fries
IN the burrito!

Whoever came up with this concoction deserves a medal. The delicious, thin cut french fries, mixed in with the rest of the burrito, elevate this humble behemoth of a burrito to an almost god-like status. Words cannot accurately describe how flavorful this burrito was. And best part is, it was only 6 bucks! It had to have been over a pound of ingredients in that burrito, and it was cheaper than a small salad at the Mediterranean place I usually frequent.

I will definitely be getting one of those again. Probably on Monday. And maybe Tuesday. Wednesday doesn't sound too bad either...

Procrastination Nation

Anybody have those days where you just don't feel like doing a single damn thing? Where you are perfectly content to just lay in bed and read a book or watch TV and barely make an effort to even get up for meals?

Anybody have one of those weeks?

Seriously, I think the Procrastination Fairy sucker-punched me this weekend. The past three days, I've done the exact same thing as soon as I got home from work. I changed into sweatpants and t-shirt, ate dinner, then got into bed around 6pm and read a book... and read... and read... until about 11pm. Then I went to bed. That's it. That's all the accomplishment I have to show for the past 3 days of my life.

I don't like doing that anymore, but I'm finding it hard to focus on doing anything. Maybe it's because I don't have to do anything. I have free time, and I think I need to find a hobby. Something I can do at home, like an online class, or designing something.

Any ideas?

Lazy Sunday (Insert other blatant SNL reference here)

Today I continued my habit of going to Pacific Beach for a nice roller-blading workout, followed by a delicious lunch at PB Ale House, followed by a very lazy walk along the beach back to my car.

But on my way back, I decided I might as well chill on the beach for a couple more hours and then watch the Super Bowl back at PB Ale House. It seemed like a good idea at the time...

Unfortunately, I'm not exactly one to sit still on the beach for two hours. For those of you that know me, you'll know I can barely sit still ever. So I decided, after skating for over 8 miles, it would be a good idea to walk along the beach for two hours. Barefoot. In the sand. With a heavy backpack on.

Sufficed to say, my back aches a bit. And my legs are sore. But, on the plus side, I have very smooth feet now.

Now, I could go into how badly that game went, but I won't pretend to have expert knowledge on how it happened. Instead I'll talk about the wonderful fans at PB Ale House! Seriously, that place was hilarious. But full of Seahawks fans (Go Payton!). And teeming with out-of-towners. I managed to talk to no less than three people from New York - one had actually visited Potsdam before! That bar is like a little piece of home. Hmm, a bar that feels like home. I'm not sure how I should feel about that....
